KARACHI: A police officer has been indicted for wrongful detention of a woman. According to sources privy to the development, the officer illegally detained a woman and kept her overnight at the station for alleged contacts with a criminal.
Sources informed media that the Anti-Car Lifting Cell (ACLC) Sub-Inspector Rizwan arrested a woman from Burns Road for having contacts with a car-lifter and took her to the ACLC station where she was kept overnight.
Senior police officials said that the sub-inspector did not follow the required rules and regulations set for making arrests and the way he took the woman into custody was illegal. They added that female officers needed to be present when the arrest was made and when the suspect was in detention.
Moreover, the woman has alleged that the sub-inspector also tortured her during custody.
A case has been registered at the Aram Bagh Police Station against the sub-inspector for kidnapping, abuse of power and other charges.
