ISLAMABAD: Former Pakistani ambassador to Afghanistan, Rustam Shah Mohmand, has shed light on the importance of Iran’s inclusion in any peace process in Afghanistan.
According to media reports, the former ambassador said that Iran’s role was integral to the peace process in Afghanistan as Iran shared a large border with the country. He added that to maintain friendly ties with Kabul, the idea of hosting Afghan refugees cannot be discarded.
Regarding the recent discussion on Afghanistan by Russia, China and Pakistan in Moscow, Mohmand said that any meeting, conference or deliberation on Afghanistan is pointless without its own inclusion or the participation of key neighbours like Iran.
He said that the sovereignty of Afghanistan as an independent country must be recognised and should be made a crucial part of the discussions on the Afghan peace process.
