LARKANA: A large number of employees of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical University (SMBBMU), Larkana staged a sit-in in front of the Vice Chancellor’s Secretariat on Tuesday against the alleged irregularities in recent appointments for the posts of computer operators and junior clerks. They demanded a thorough probe into the appointments made by the university authorities.
Altaf Gopang, Manzoor Lashari, Noor Hulio, Nawab Shaikh, Nisar Sangi, and others participated in the protest. While talking to the media they said that the VC had assured them that jobs will also be provided to them on son quota basis; this was denied to them which amounts to a deviation from the commitment. They alleged that merit has been ignored and instead individuals have been appointed through nepotism which is in sheer violation of establishing good governance. They demanded a high level investigation into the allegations regarding the violation of merit.
On other hand, the spokesman of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical University (SMBBMU), Abdul Samad Bhatti, claimed that recent appointments for the posts of computer operators, junior clerks etc. in the university have been made in a transparent manner. In a press statement, Bhatti said that 875 candidates were shortlisted and the applications of others were rejected as they did not fulfill the required formalities. He said that 475 candidates applied for the posts of below scale-7 and 400 submitted applications for appointment from grade 7 to 16 posts out of which 350 were declared successful. He further claimed that to avoid pressure, the result of the test and interview was declared immediately so that competent persons could be employed in the university purely on merit. Bhatti alleged that those people that are raising hue and cry against these appointments are unjust in doing so.
