ISLAMABAD: Prosecutor General National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Waqas Qadeer Dar Friday said NAB achieved success of 77.6 percent in cases filed by it in courts and 416 accused were convicted since 2011.
Addressing a press conference here, he said NAB in its action against corrupt elements recovered Rs 280 billion since it was established and returned the money to the national exchequer. He said NABs’ Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry followed a policy of zero tolerance on corruption.
He said in 2010, 67 accused, in 2011, 53 accused, in 2012, 58 accused, in 2013, 53 accused, in 2014, 44 accused, in 2015, 62 accused and till November this year 79 accused were convicted by the accountability courts. Across the country, 94 prosecutors were working in seven bureaus of the country. These prosecutors assisted the court in their proceedings. Dar said NAB had formed a system of joint investigation teams which consisted of investigation officers and legal advisers.
Because of this system of joint investigation, a single individual could not affect cases and this system had remarkably improved NAB’s performance.
