The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Saturday said it holds solid documentary evidences and witnesses against Leader of the Opposition in the Punjab Assembly Hamza Shahbaz in assets beyond means case. The anti-corruption watchdog said in its declaration that the evidences and witnesses will be presented before the Lahore’s accountability court. The NAB spokesperson said, “The Lahore High Court (LHC) has already rejected the PML-N leader’s bail. It is only the court’s jurisdiction to make any decision. “The anti-graft body will continue performing duty without getting pressurized by any threat or baseless propaganda. Those who give statements on media regarding the case should become witness in the court.”
It is pertinent here to mention that PML-N spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb earlier in the day had demanded release of Hamza Shahbaz. She said the flour and sugar mafia has kept Hamza Shahbaz, who has appeared in more than 50 hearings of the fake money laundering case, in jail to hide their illegal activities.
Meanwhile, NAB has started its investigation into alleged theft of wheat worth Rs 7 billion in Sindh, sources said on Saturday. A two-member team of senior officials of the bureau has been formed by the DG NAB, sources said. The team has been tasked to submit its inquiry report as soon as it can.
The Sindh government on Monday had forwarded the case of alleged theft of wheat worth Rs7 billion from its warehouses in the province to NAB for investigation. It must be noted that about 168,000 metric tonnes of wheat went missing from the government warehouses in the province. The wheat worth Rs7 billion was stolen in the month of February, according to a report. Another wheat bags worth Rs450 million had gone missing last year in November, the report said.
