Dengue fever has claimed the life of a woman in the city, taking the death toll from this mosquito-borne disease to 17 since Jan 1, 2019.
A 35-year-old woman, Asma, wife of Irshed, resident of North Karachi, was brought to a private hospital of Karachi with high grade fever a couple of days ago and later she died due to dengue fever.
Spokesman Prevention and Control Program for Dengue (PCPD) Sindh, while talking to PPI, confirmed the death of woman due to dengue fever complications in a private hospital of the city and informed a total 17 people have died of dengue in Karachi city this year so far.
In 2019, a total of 5,362 dengue cases have been reported in Sindh province so far; including 5,042 from Karachi alone.
Moreover, four more new cases of dengue virus surfaced in Faisalabad on Monday, with the toll reaching up to 41 in the city so far.
According to hospital sources, a total of 147 dengue cases were reported from the district this year, with 41 alone from Faisalabad. The disease has so far claimed four lives in the city this year.
Sources within the Health Ministry said that the number of dengue cases countrywide has crossed 30,000, with 47 deaths this year so far.
As per details, the tally of dengue patients across the country has jumped over 30,000 with the recent addition of 567 cases, reported during last 24 hours.
Sources said, 8,245 patients have been tested positive with dengue fever in Islamabad, 6,629 cases have been reported in Punjab, 5,299 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
(KP) 5,109 in Sindh, 2,776 in Balochistan and 1,338 cases have been reported in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK). During the current year, 47 deaths have been caused by dengue so far, said sources. The mosquito-borne disease which may prove fatal if not diagnosed and treated in time has spread rapidly throughout Pakistan and has caused serious concern among the masses. Sources said that the special monitoring cell established to monitor the spread of the virus has forwarded its report to the Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Health Dr Zafar Mirza. The sources of the Health Ministry have disclosed that the overall cases of the disease have crossed the number of 30,000.
