Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan Thursday said the chairman of the high-powered inquiry commission announced by Prime Minister Imran Khan to probe loans taken during the past 10 years will be appointed within a week.
Addressing a press conference flanked by Federal Minister for Food Security Sahibzada Mehboob Sultan and Chairman Kissan Board Khalid Khokhar here, she said that opposition parties and a section of media has given the impression that prime minister himself will head the commission which is incorrect. She said terms of reference for the commission are being finalised.
She said that Prime Minister Imran Khan has set priorities for the next fiscal year’s budget keeping in mind the aspirations of the people. She said some harsh steps had to be taken in the budget to stabilise the national economy. Agriculture sector is backbone of the national economy but the previous government ruined this vital sector by imposing heavy cuts in its allocations, she added.
Firdous asks Maryam not to politicise constitutional issue of references against judges
Meanwhile, the special assistant said Maryam Safdar should not try to politicise the issue of reference against judges, which is a constitutional matter. In a tweet on her social media account, she asked Maryam that the best way to show solidarity with the judiciary is to respect verdicts of the courts.
Dr Firdous also advised Maryam to present her absconding brothers and uncle Ishaq Dar in the courts who have played havoc with the national economy and give proof of her respect for the judiciary, rule of law and the constitution.
In another tweet, Firdous said a convicted princess in the company of countless maids is crying for the end of monarchy. She said Maryam is worried because the commission headed by the prime minister will expose corruption of her family.
