ISLAMABAD: The Radio Pakistan reports that today (Tuesday) the federal cabinet will meet Prime Minister Imran Khan in the chair to discuss the overall political and economic situation of the country.
Under discussion will be the proposed tax amnesty scheme, besides deliberation on the $6 billion packages finalised with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is also expected.
The meeting will also be briefed about the prices of essential commodities.
The funds were refused to drought-hit families of Sindh and Balochistan on Monday.
Following a request from the provincial authorities, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) prepared a plan for providing ration bags worth Rs4.25 billion for one month to the drought-hit families. In this regard, the NDMA prepared a summary and tabled it before the cabinet for approval.
In collaboration with the UNRC, the NDMA, in consultation with the PDMAs of Sindh and Balochistan, UNOCHA and other donor agencies, had finalised a response to the calamity on January 22, 2019.
The federal cabinet approved the drought plan albeit without further funding from the federal government on the pretext of the latter’s restricted role under the 18th Amendment.
