An anti-terrorism court, on Friday, received documents from the defence counsel in Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Dr Imran Farooq’s murder case.
Khalid Shamim, one of the prime accused, submitted documents before ATC Judge Shahrukh Arjumand in Islamabad.
Summoning concluding arguments from all parties, the judge adjourned the case proceedings till May 14.
Earlier in April, Khalid Shamim and Mohsin Ali had withdrawn their confessional statements previously recorded before a magistrate.
They had been given a questionnaire for their statements under section 342. The accused’s responses were submitted in the court today by the defence lawyers.
Shamim alleged that his statement before the magistrate had been influenced by torture.
He further accused that the magistrate had prepared the statement as the investigating officer dictated him and that he had not given any such statement.
Ali claimed that he had given no statement in front of the magistrate at all. He was said to be severely tortured yet he had refused from speaking up.
“I complained to the magistrate about this behaviour, but he just signed on a statement prepared beforehand and stamped it as being my statement,” Ali maintained.
The two are being investigated for the September 2010’s murder of Dr Farooq in London near his residence.
