The funeral prayers of former premier Nawaz Sharif’s wife Kulsoom Nawaz were held at London Central Mosque near Regent Park on Thursday.
Kulsoom’s sons Hassan and Hussain, brother-in-law Shehbaz Sharif and multiple Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders including Chaudhry Nisar and Ishaq Dar attended the funerals.
Kulsoom Nawaz died of cancer in London’s Harley Street clinic on Wednesday. She had been battling with lymphoma (throat) cancer since August 2017.
The body of the three-time first lady will be brought back to Pakistan tonight through a PIA flight. Kulsoom would be laid to rest in Jati Umra on Friday. Renowned scholar Maulana Tariq Jameel will lead funeral prayers of the former first lady.
Hassan and Hussain have decided not to attend the funeral rites of their mother in Pakistan as they are declared absconders from the on going corruption investigation against them.
Nawaz Sharif, daughter Maryam and son-in-law Capt (retd) Safdar have been released from Adiala jail on parole for the funeral rites of Kulsoom Nawaz.
A large number of political leaders and party workers are gathered at the Jati Umra to condole the death of the former first lady.
Earlier, Prime Minister Imran Khan and Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa has sent their condolences messages to the Sharif family over demise of Kulsoom Nawaz.
