ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) submitted on Wednesday a resolution in the Punjab Assembly against the sharp increase in gas prices and demanded the federal government to revoke the decision.
The party representative, Syed Hassan Murtaza, filed the resolution and condemned the increment of 46 percent in the gas rates.
Murtaza noted that inflation is already crushing the public and now the gas price hike would burden them even more.
While on the other hand, former finance minister and PML-N leader, Miftah Ismail claimed that the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) registered a record profit last year.
It not understandable that why to approve an increase of 46 percent in gas price, specially when the fuel prices have not risen either, he further said.

The gas price hike will only cause a harmful impact on the living standards of the common man and hit the country’s exports, Ismael added.
With regard to the upward bump in the power tariff, the PML-N leader remarked, Rs2 for households and Rs3 for the industrial consumers will lower exports and increase inflation.
The incumbent leadership is making a mistake, he concluded.
