GILGIT: The 3-day long Shandur Polo festival ended at Shandur mountain, one of the major mountain passes that sits between Chitral and Ghizer District of Gilgit-Baltistan, on Tuesday as the Gilgit Baltistan Environment Protection Agency (GB-EPA) collected 370kgs of waste from the venue.
During the 3-day polo festival, hundreds of people from Pakistan and beyond participated. According to Gilgit Baltistan Environment Protection Agency (GB-EPA), almost 2000 vehicles entered from GB during the festival and around 10,000 people participated in the festival.
Gilgit Baltistan Environment Protection Agency (GB-EPA) also launched a environmental management plan and EPA volunteers collected huge piles of garbage, plastic bottle, bags and empty cans of beverages at the end of the festival.
“At the end of the festival, we collected approximately 370kgs of solid waste from the venue,” said GB-EPA Assistant Director Khadim Hussain Nowgam.
The waste collection from the site of Shandur Polo Ffestival was conducted with the help of Gilgit Waste Management Company, Ghizar Municipal Committee workers and EPA volunteers.
“The collected waste was safely disposed off outside the Shandur to keep the site clean,” said Nowgam.
