In backdrop of coronavirus pandemic, Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training Islamabad on Tuesday decided to launch a national TV channel dedicated for delivery of education to compensate for educational loss of the students due to closure of educational institutions in the capital.
Aftermath of coronavirus outbreak, the government categorically decided to close educational institutions across the country both in public and private sectors initially till April 5. The purpose of the move was to cope with spread of novel virus.
According to a document available with Daily Times, Shafqat Mahmood, Federal Minister for Education, Professional Training and National Heritage chaired a meeting on alternate educational content delivery mechanism during corona virus outbreak.
“It was decided that to mitigate academic loses due to closure of education over the country, the ministry would launch a National TV channel (in collaboration with PTV) dedicated for delivery of education”, read the document adding that it was agreed that the content will be developed in partnership with various education service providers free of cost, for which interest has been solicited.
For this purpose, the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) has been taken on board to player role in this noble cause. The FDE supervisory body of the 423 educational institutions working in Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT).
The document said that the FDE has been supposed to establish emergency learning certres, where the subject specialists will review and schedule the content.
“The minister will personally review the progress on daily basis and it is expected that the channel will start broadcasting in mid of the April”, it explained adding that briefing in this regard will also be given to all provinces in the education ministers’ conference that is scheduled for March 26.
An official of the ministry said on the condition of anonymity that all provincial education ministers or representatives are asked to attend the conference through video links as precautionary measures of the coronavirus.
