Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday thanked his Pakistani counterpart, Imran Khan, for his cooperation on the Kartarpur Corridor issue. Speaking at an event, Modi said that Prime Minister Imran has understood the emotions of the Indian people. “I would like to thank the prime minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan, for understanding the sentiments of the people of India,” he said. Modi said it has become easier for Sikh pilgrims to go to Guru Nanak’s Gurdwara because of the corridor. “I would like to thank the authorities in Pakistan who helped create this corridor in a short span of time,” he said.
Meanwhile, India’s former prime minister Manmohan Singh said that the opening of Kartarpur Corridor will significantly improve ties between Pakistan and India. Manmohan Singh and Indian Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh arrived at Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur with a Sikh delegation as gates of the passage at zero point were opened on Saturday. Pakistani officials welcomed the Sikh pilgrims. Manmohan Singh termed it a ‘big moment’. Amarinder Singh said the Sikh community has been waiting for a free passage for last 72 years, and maintained that it is a good beginning.
