Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Sunday said that democracy was the key to the nation’s enlightened future and democracy derived everything from the masses as they govern it. He stated this in his message on the International Democracy Day. “In Pakistan, the unanimously passed 1973 Constitution is synonymous to real democracy,” he said. The PPP chairman said that Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was second to Quaid-i-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah to have taken revolutionary steps towards cementing the democratic system in the country, and Shaheed Benazir Bhutto laid down her life for democracy. Bilawal said that former president Asif Ali Zardari had been imprisoned because he took steps to promote the democratic vision of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto. He said a government without true public mandate could never be considered as truly democratic one. The PPP chairman said that only a people’s elected government could take the country to the heights of glory and prosperity. He pointed out that the governments led by PPP have a brilliant record of success on the political, social, economic and diplomatic fronts.
