Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar on Friday visited Nankana Sahib district and laid the foundation stone of Baba Guru Nanak University, which is first of its kind in the province.
This university will comprise 10 acres of land and will be completed with an amount of Rs 6 billion. This university is an important step towards completion of Prime Minister’s promises and would help lakhs of students of Nankana Sahib district and other adjoining areas.
Upon arrival, Buzdar was warmly received by Interior Minister Brig (r) Ijaz Shah, assembly members and the district administration.
He inaugurated the first motel of the Tourism Development Corporation of Punjab (TDCP) which has been completed with the cost of Rs 130 million to help promote religious tourism in the district.
He also planted a sapling and expressed the satisfaction that the new facility will provide the best facilities to Sikh pilgrims and other tourists.
“The Punjab government is providing best facilities to the Sikh community at their religious places under a policy of religious harmony,” he added.
The Chief Minister laid the foundation stone of project of repair and maintenance of entry roads of the district which will be completed with an amount of Rs 150 million.
Pir Ahmed Shah road will be dualised and Gurdawara Tanboo Sahib to Gurdwara Janam Asthaan via Dholaar Chowk would be repaired, while Larri Adda road would be expanded, he said. Similarly, link road connecting the Guru Nanak University to Nankana-Warburton road will be constructed as well.
The chief minister laid the foundation stone of construction of Shah Kot tehsil complex project which will be completed with a cost of Rs 110 million. Interior Minister Ijaz Shah hosted a luncheon in honor of Punjab Chief Minister which was attended by assembly members and local notables. In his address to the gathering, Usman Buzdar said that development of all the areas will be ensured and added that neglected districts like Nankana Sahib will be brought at par with developed cities.
Establishment of Baba Guru Nanak University in Nankana Sahib is part of Prime Minister’s vision, he said. Development schemes for Nankana Sahib and other districts will be continued. The repair and construction of roads will help to increase the opportunities of development and prosperity of the people, he added. Ijaz Shah thanked the Chief Minister for his visit.
Thermal plant
Buzdar also visited the 1180-megawatt RLNG Quaid-e-Azam Thermal Power Plant in Bhikki area of Sheikhupura and inspected its various sections.
During the visit, the Chief Minister was told that this plant has generated electricity worth Rs.10 billion. Addressing the meeting, Usman Buzdar said that Quaid-e-Azam Thermal Power Plant is a national project and assured that its issues will be solved soon. A committee led by the Chief Secretary has been constituted to submit its recommendations by reviewing recruitments and other issues. He said that board members of Quaid-e-Azam Thermal Power Plant will be nominated soon and its privatization will also be examined. Usman Buzdar directed that more saplings should be planted inside and outside of the plant and made it clear that he will examine every project personally.
He also inaugurated the construction of the sports complex project in Sheikhupura costing around Rs.39 crores. Various sports facilities are arranged over an area of 19 acres. Usman Buzdar laid the foundation stone of restoration of old nullah dek. Under this project, restoration work of old nullah dek will be done with an amount of Rs.38.50 crore from dek diversion channel to QB Link Canal. This project will be completed by the mid of next year to help save the agricultural lands of Daska, Gujranwala, Muridke, and Ferozewala from flood water.
MNAs and MPAs also called on the Chief Minister during the visit. The Chief Minister said that the process of meetings and consultation has already been started and meetings with the parliamentarians are held during field visits to solve their problems on a priority basis. Public service is our agenda and this would continue, he added.
Had the national exchequer not been wasted on personal spendthrifts, the state of affairs would have been different today. We are the custodian of every government penny and no one will be allowed to remain dishonest with the national kitty. Provincial ministers Dr. Akhtar Malik, Mian Khalid, Mohsin Leghari, Tamuir Bhatti, Hafiz Mumtaz Ahmed, Chief Secretary, and others were present on the occasion.
Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar has condoled the death of Abdul Hameed Hameedi, former captain of the national hockey team. He extended sympathies to the bereaved family and paid tributes to the services of late Abdul Hameed Hameedi for the promotion of play of hockey.
