The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Monday dismissed a petition seeking disqualification of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Senator Sehar Kamran.
The decision was announced by a two-member ECP bench, headed by Punjab Member Altaf Ibrahim Qureshi.
On the occasion, Senator Sehar Kamran submitted her reply to the bench. After reviewing the mentioned points in the written reply, the ECP dismissed the petition.
Separately, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday issued notices to parliamentarians of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in a disqualification case.
IHC Judge Amir Farooq heard pleas seeking disqualification of PTI MNAs Tashfeen Safdar, Malaika Bukhari and Kanwal Shauzab.
On the occasion, lawyers representing Bukhari and Shauzab appeared before the court.
The petition had sought disqualification of the nominated women MNA Shauzab for “changing her statement” before the court in accordance with Article 62 & 63.
The ECP and the MNAs submitted their replies before the court on Monday. However, the petitioner’s lawyer demanded more time.
The court then summoned the replies till May 30, issuing a notice to the National Assembly secretary.
Earlier on May 9, Parliamentary Secretary Farrukh Habib, Malaika Bukhari, Kanwal Shauzab and Javeria Zafar had filed a petition in the ECP against the appointment of Maryam Nawaz as the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz vice president.
