Opposition Leader in National Assembly (NA) Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday condemned the proposed hike in petroleum prices ahead of the holy month of Ramazan.
In a statement, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) president said Rs 9 per litre increase in the price of petrol is highly unfair, adding that increasing the petroleum prices before the month of Ramazan is an injustice to the people. “The government has shown its incompetence and placed the burden of it on the public. Those who keep speaking about the State of Madina did not even consider the holy month of Ramazan,” he said, adding that the government has burdened the people in the month of blessings. “Because of this incompetent government, the running of the household of the poor, businesses and the governance of the country has come to a halt,” he said, adding that the government has failed to reduce the budget deficit. Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s spokesman Senator Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar said Imran Khan’s tsunami has completely flooded the country with the price hike and the common people are worried about their homes and hearths. He said the people are suffering due to inability of the government to run the country, adding that Pakistan Stock Exchange is on the freefall and the upcoming hike in petrol prices will multiply the difficulties of the people. “The PPP totally rejects increase in petroleum prices and demands the government to take back its plan to make people’s life miserable,” he concluded.
