After the discovery of ‘benami’ properties and fake bank accounts across the country, a curious case has now surfaced of a ‘benami’ car registered in the name of a poor man who does not even own a bicycle. Babar Ali, a poor 22-year-old Chiniot resident, was shocked when he received a ticket for a traffic violation in Lahore for a vehicle registered in his name. Ali claims he does not even a bicycle, let alone a car worth hundreds of thousands of rupees.
Ali, who lives in Moza Dawar of Chiniot, also claims that he has never been to Lahore, yet the traffic police challan appears to show that the vehicle fraudulently registered in his name with number LEA-2374 is being driven on the streets of the provincial capital. Ali claims that he is a poor man and has urged law enforcement authorities to investigate the matter.
