Pakistan’s Foreign Secretary, Tehmina Janjua, on Tuesday, deemed the resolution of Kashmir conflict indispensable for establishing peace in the region.
She said this while addressing the International Conference on ‘Shanghai Cooperation Organisation; Future Prospects and Regional Connectivity’, organised by the Centre for Global and Strategic Studies in Islamabad.
Janjua believed that Islamabad had taken several steps, including the ground-breaking of Kartarpur Corridor and resuming operation of Samjotha Express for regional peace.
The secretary further added that Pakistan wanted a solution to Kashmir issue in light of the UN resolution.
Appreciating the role of the international community in de-escalating tensions between Pakistan and India, the foreign secretary highlighted that Pakistan had acted very responsibly, only reacting when Indian forces had violated the Line of Control (LoC).
Pakistan had responded to India with determination and patience, the secretary continued, claiming that the country advocated for peace as the region could attain prosperity and development through peace and stability.
Alluding to the situation in Afghanistan, Janjua believed that long-lasting peace could only be achieved through talks between Afghans, further maintaining, “The Afghans will have to determine their own future.”
“Pakistan is willing to play its role in the Afghan-peace process,” she added.
