Member provincial Assembly (MPA) Seemabi Tahir tabled a new bill-draft “The Punjab Prohibition of Sheesha Smoking and Crystal Ice Bill 2019″ in Punjab Assembly on Saturday. The main objective of this bill is to control the new trend of drug addiction through Sheesha Smoking and curb the use and enlarging scale of crystal ice increasing day by day. All related Sheesha items are selling illegally in the whole province. Crystal Ice /meth, short for crystal methamphetamine, ‘is a big threat for our new generation,” MPA worried. She was highlighting the main point of the proposed bill to media along with Consultant Anti Drugs/Narcotics Campaign Syed Zulfiqar Hussain at Drug Advisory Training Hub (DATH). The lawmaker said, “We are thankful to Syed Zulfiqar Hussain who prepared a draft of this bill; our Prime Minister Imran Khan has a positive vision and commitment to eradicate the menace of drug addiction among our youth in the whole country.”
She added that the Punjab Prohibition Sheesha Smoking and Crystal Ice Bill 2019 is an essential need of time because so many drugs are available in the market, which is a dangerous threat to our young generation. She said that this is social and collective issue of the nation inviting public representatives and opposition parties for its appropriate solution. She highlighted that this is a non-bailable offence calling for a two years sentence or two hundred thousand rupees fine or both.
Syed Zulfiqar Hussain said that his organization will fully support and help to the government department to curb this menace in the society. He said that this bill will be an effective step to get rid of drugs particularly crystal ice. He also appealed to all members of provincial assembly to support and pass this bill in the best interest of nation especially youth.
