Federal government on Monday has approved of Rs 23 in the total gas bill for the common man.
The decision was made in a meeting of the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) held in Islamabad today.
While addressing the media after the meeting, Petroleum Minister Ghulam Sarwar said that the committee has approved an increase of only Rs 23 in the total gas bill, adding that the increase in tariff is targeted at higher tariff slabs.
The minister admitted that it is difficult for the government to streamline issues as gas was being earlier purchased for higher prices and sold cheap.
It was also decided that the tax on the imported Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) will be minimized by 10 percent.
In the last meeting, the ECC had decided against an immediate increase in gas prices and left it for Prime Minister Imran Khan to decide.
