PESHAWAR: First time in the history of medical studies of the province the 1st year MBBS students have this practical skill enhancement of basic Life support course as mandatory for passing the 1st year. The students are trained and evaluated if they are well equipped and well versed with BLS training.
The course was led by Prof Dr Saadia Ashraf, Director Basic Life Support and In-charge Pulmonology KTH and was facilitated by Assistant Professor Dr Syed Asad Maroof, Director Trauma Life Support and Associate Professor Dr Amber Ashraf, Director Cardiac Life Support and In-charge Cardiology KTH.
The facilitators are certified instructors from American Heart Association. Department of Life Support MTI KTH arranges these courses in collaboration with Khyber Medical College Amjad Hussain Skill Laboratory.
From 2020 the doctors of Pakistan will not be accepted abroad if they have not studied according to the modular system because of this PMDC and KMU decided to introduce modular system from year 2018. KMU assigned all the medical colleges to make different modules and KMC was assigned to make cardiovascular module. Chairman Medical Education Department Prof Dr Hashim Uddin Azam Khan and other members made cardiovascular module and started the pilot project.
KMC has launched 1st cardiovascular module pilot project from 2nd May 2017 and under that module MBBS students should be well equipped with BLS course. KMC has achieved the milestone of training the students with BLS.
Dean KMC Prof Dr Noor-ul-Eman and Medical Director MTI KTH Prof Dr Rooh-ul-Muqim appreciated and lauded the efforts of the BLS course facilitators. They congratulated the facilitators over achieving one of the important milestones of cardiovascular module. Students’ feedback is very encouraging and positive.
