ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has approved the financing plan for Diamer-Basha Dam which was presented by the Secretary Water and Power, today (Monday).
According to Radio Pakistan’s transmission, the proposed plan, on self reliance basis, will fund the Dam’s portion of the project from PSDP allocations and WAPDA generated resources.
Allocated portion of the dam will be independent from the rest of the financing for the power generation portion, which will be arranged on commercial basis by the ministry either through WAPDA or through leasing its existing projects.

Diamer-Basha Dam holds a potential to overcome 8.1 MAF of gross storage, of which 6.4 MAF will be live storage with a capacity to produce 4,500MW of cheap and clean energy.
