All educational institutes will reopen on September 15 across the country, said a spokesperson from the education ministry.
Federal Minister for Education Shafqat Mahmood on Wednesday chaired a conference of education ministers in Islamabad where the decision was taken. According to the spokesperson, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government proposed to open schools from September 1 which was rejected by all the provinces. Moreover, the spokesperson from the Sindh Education Ministry said that no one is allowed to reopen schools before September 15 and that legal action will be taken against those who do so.
The decision came as Pakistan on Wednesday reported 15 more deaths by novel coronavirus, with the total number of positive cases surging to 281,528 across country. The nationwide tally of fatalities has jumped to 6,030.
According to the latest figures released by the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), 675 persons have been tested positive for Covid-19 in 24 hours. Sindh remains the worst-hit province by the pandemic in terms of cases followed by Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Islamabad. Till now 122,373 coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Sindh, 93,571 in Punjab, 34,359 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 15,122 in Islamabad, 11,780 in Balochistan, 2,105 in Azad Kashmir and 2,218 in Gilgit-Baltistan. Furthermore 2,157 individuals have lost their lives to the epidemic in Punjab, 2,231 in Sindh, 1,213 in KP, 136 in Balochistan, 167 in Islamabad, 55 in GB and 55 in Azad Kashmir.
Pakistan has so far conducted 2,043,870 coronavirus tests, with 11,915 in the last 24 hours. At least 254,286 coronavirus patients have recovered in the country whereas 872 patients are in a critical condition.
Sindh Wednesday reported 357 new cases of novel coronavirus, raising the provincial tally to 122,373. Moreover, 14 more people died due to the virus in the last 24 hours, according to a statement issued by the Chief Minister House.
Punjab reported 235 new coronavirus cases, according to the government’s Covid-19 portal, taking the provincial tally to 93,571. It has also reported four more deaths from the virus. Islamabad, Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan collectively reported 55 cases and one additional fatality from the virus.
The government’s database on coronavirus shows that another 4,889 people have recovered from Covid-19 in Pakistan, taking the total number of recovered people to 254,286.
