Another team of Chinese doctors carrying medical aid has arrived in the federal capital today.
Joint Chief of Staff Committee Chairperson General Nadeem Raza received the doctor’s team upon their arrival at the Islamabad International Airport. The doctors will stay in the country for the next two months.
The team has expertise in dealing with patients affected by the novel coronavirus. They will also analyse Pakistan’s medical services and will advise doctors and paramedic staff working on the front line.
Last month, a team of eight Chinese doctors reached Pakistan. During the stay, the team shared its expertise to help Pakistan fighting the pandemic.
Pakistan, despite its close proximity with China, remained unscathed until February 26 when a young man from Karachi tested positive for the novel coronavirus. He had returned from Iran – one of the worst-hit countries.
After a brief pause following the first case, COVID-19 cases witnessed a sharp surge as more pilgrims returning from Iran tested positive.
The nationwide tally of Covid-19 patients soared to 11,736 on Friday, with 4,851 cases reported in Punjab, 3,945 in Sindh, 1,708 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 656 in Balochistan, 307 in Gilgit Baltistan, 214 in Islamabad and 55 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir. The virus has claimed at least 248 lives while some 2,527 coronavirus patients have recovered so far.
Another medical professional succumbed to deadly coronavirus in the country when a senior dispenser of a virus control room in Civil Hospital, Quetta passed away on Friday.
