ISLAMABAD: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam–Fazl’s (JUI-F) leader Mufti Kifayatullah was arrested from Islamabad on Sunday for issuing inflammatory statements against the national institutions.
The Mansehra deputy commissioner issued a notice in which it said he has ordered the arrest of Kifayatullah under Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance.
He will be shifted to Central Jail, Haripur for 30 days.
According to the deputy commissioner, Kifayatullah was arrested because he was collecting chanda, holding corner meetings and inciting the public to take part in the Azadi March.
According to Hazarvi, Kifayatullah was arrested at 4am near Masjid Tooba in Islamabad’s E-11 area. He had been staying at a friend’s apartment.
He added that the JUI-F leader has been shifted to Haripur Jail.
Islamabad Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Operations Waqaruddin Syed, however, strongly denied reports of Kifayathullah’s arrest. In a statement shared by the Islamabad police spokesperson, he said that the Islamabad police had neither conducted any raid nor made any arrest.
JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman would lead caravans from Sindh towards Islamabad after addressing a big rally in Karachi’s Sohrab Goth on Sunday.
