The civil society in Shikarpur, mainly youths, recorded a unique protest by holding bandage around their mouth against alleged suicide of a final year student Dr Nimirta Amarta Maher Chandani at her hostel’s room of Bibi Aseefa Dental College Larkana and increasing religious extremism and in favour of minorities residing in Sindh, on Tuesday.
The youths including Rashid Ali Lashari, Amjad Jalbani, Fahad Shahzad Solangi were prominent among others and distributed pamphlets during protest inscribed content in favour of minorities and against alarming situation of increasing religious extremism, but they did not spoke because their mouths were closed by bandages around their mouths.
Family says Nimrita murdered, demands investigation
It is worthwhile to mention here that the body of student named Dr Nimirta Amarta Maher Chandani, who was studying in a final year at Bibi Aseefa Dental College (BADC) Larkana, was found in her hostel’s room on Monday. Nimrita’s brother Dr Vishal, a medical consultant in Dow Medical College in Karachi, refuted all claims of alleged suicide when he rushed to receive the body of his sister. He told the media that the marks around her neck suggested that she had not committed suicide. He had further claimed that the marks on her neck looked like those made by cable wires, while the wounds on her arms suggested that someone was holding her down.
Nimrita’s uncle said that they wanted an investigation into why her body was kept in CMC’s intensive care unit before the family reached the hospital. He accused the doctors of being involved in the “murder” and questioned why a post-mortem examination had not been conducted.
This is noteworthy that police had taken all belonging including mobile phone and other evidence into its custody for a forensic analysis; however, the actual cause of her death was yet to be ascertained.
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah took notice of the alleged suicide and sought detailed report from concerned dental college higher authorities.
It should also mention here that a couple of days ago over alleged blasphemy issue riots had been made by miscreants who vandalized temples and houses of minorities in Ghotki district of Sindh after that police have lodged three separate FIRs against at least 170 miscreants and arrested some of them and controlled over the situation.
The civil society demanded high level probe especially judicial enquiry into the alleged suicide of Dr Nimirta Chandani and expressed their sympathies with minorities and vowed they are with minorities at every stage.
