A company managed by the Fauji Foundation Group, Mari Petroleum Company Limited (MPCL) claims to have discovered oil in Punjab. This is not the first time such a discovery has been made by the company. Dharian-l ST-3, drilled in the Ghauri area, near Gujjar Khan in Rawalpindi District is where oil has been reportedly found. Reports claimed that Dharian-1 is expected to provide 374 barrels of oil per day. MPCL has made significant discoveries in the past. Gas was discovered at exploration well Shahbaz-1 in Mari D&P Lease Area. Shahbaz-1 was drilled down to the depth of 1,180 meters into the Sui Main Limestone Formation with MCPL’s own Rig Mari-1. In addition, MCPL made a huge crude oil discovery at Halini Deep-1 well in Karak block, KPK/Punjab. Halini Deep-1 ranks among the deepest wells in Pakistan and is the deepest well ever drilled by MCPL.
