Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader and former senator Farhatullah Babar on Wednesday said that the tragically gruesome Farishta incident was neither the first nor would be the last, as it was a manifestation of a “security-driven state” where police and uniformed forces trumped the rule of law. He was addressing the participants of a protest demonstration organised by the civil society in front of the National Press Club. Speaking on the occasion, the PPP leader said that plenty of laws were there, but were not being implemented because the criminal justice system was totally broken and dysfunctional. “In a broken justice system, the poor and underprivileged suffered regardless of where they lived. Farishta suffered even though she lived with her parents in the federal capital,” he said.
