Punjab Highway Patrol (PHP) arrested 22,596 culprits including 2,529 proclaimed offenders, 454 court absconders and recovered cash, valuables, drugs as well as illegal weapons from their possession during the year 2018 while registering 25,012 cases.
This was stated by Additional IG PHP Ahmad Ishaque Jehangir during a media briefing on Sunday. He informed that 1, 54,956 people were rescued on the roads in addition to at least 510 lost children who were reunited with their parents.
Additional IG PHP said that around 47,445 encroachments were removed and 9, 15,621 motorcycles were impounded having no documents or registration numbers which helped significantly to curb the crime across the province.
Recovers drugs and weapons; imposes fine on violators
Punjab Highway Patrol made a commendable performance regarding illicit arms and Narcotics. During last year, 91 Kalashnikovs, 315 Riffles, 267 Guns/carbine, 1560 pistols/Revolver, 626 Magazines and 16350 cartages and bullets recovered after registered 2528 cases, IG PHP added.
He said that 1,130 kilometres and 14 highways are under the jurisdiction of PHP traffic Management. During the year 2018, at least 1, 49,659 tickets were issued and Rs. 67,641,599 fine was imposed on traffic violators; the recovery ratio stood at 91%. PHP did not have to collect any kind of documents while making Challan as people wilfully submitted their fines. It is important to mention that behaviour of PHP personnel with public remained largely polite and cooperative.
Moreover, the Highway Patrol arranged 10 courses in the following year in which 10,942 officials participated. Under Green Highway drive, 7, 79,338 saplings were planted over Punjab; At least 3, 38,821 plants survived and the overall survival ratio remained 43%.
