According to Indian media, Pakistan and India have decided to revive track II diplomacy in a bid to improve their bilateral relationship.
The Times of India newspaper reported that the Track II initiative, known as the Neemrana Dialogue, received a fresh impetus after a high-level Indian delegation held meetings with Pakistani officials in Islamabad from April 28 to April 30.
The dialogue gets its name from the Neemrana Fort where the dialogue was first held in 1991-1992.
The Pakistani delegation, headed by former foreign secretary Inamul Haque, met with the Indian delegation which was headed by former India MEA secretary Vivek Katju.
The participants in the meeting have decided to await the outcome of the upcoming elections in Pakistan before they proceed any further with official talks.
Tension between the two neighboring countries escalated after Pakistani diplomats and their families were harassed in New Delhi.
In one such incident, the children of a Pakistani diplomat were harassed as the car they were travelling in was intercepted in the Indian capital.
Similar incidents have made it difficult for the families of Pakistani diplomats to stay in New Delhi.
