KARACHI: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Co-Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Sunday said that PPP stood up against an era of racism and darkness when no one else ‘dared’ to.
“There was a time when some people tried to eradicate PPP’s popularity via the use of power. Our workers were brutally burned in their homes, but it did not break us. The people of Karachi know that the only party to oppose the racist and dark times was PPP,” Bilawal said while addressing a party rally in Liaquatabad.
Taking jabs at MQM founder Altaf Hussain, Bilawal Bhutto said that the PPP has “rescued Karachi from the London one” and that the party aims to build upon the existing environment of peace and stability in the city.
The PPP co-chief continued that during former president Pervaiz Musharraf’s era, the MQM governed as “a mafia” and did not take necessary steps for the development of the city. “We are against the politics of Atlaf Hussain from day one, and we will not let any of his ‘men’ to replicate him,” he added.
Bilawal said that MQM does not want to remove heaps of garbage from the city since “their politics relies on it.” He questioned that “how can you expect MQM to solve major problems when they can not even solve minor issues such as elimination of garbage?”
He also criticised PTI Chairman Imran Khan saying that “those who side with Khan are honest even after disqualification, but those who oppose him do not avail that privilege.” Moreover, the PPP chief said that Altaf Hussain and Imran Khan are a reflection of one another.
“Before, Karachi was controlled via London, while now the Bani Gala dreams of taking control of the city,” he added.
Turning his guns towards former PM Nawaz Sharif, Bilawal said that nobody would respect him and his call to “respect the vote” until and unless he respects the rights of the underprivileged, minorities, women, parliaments and the Constitution.
