ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Monday confirmed that the party will submit three nominees for the position of caretaker prime minister and chief minister of Punjab in the wake of upcoming general elections, a private TV channel reported.
PTI Chairman Imran Khan met senior party leaders and after consensus decided to submit the names of Abdul Razak Dawood, former chief justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani and Dr Ishrat Hussain for the post of caretaker prime minister.
Dawood, a politician and industrialist, served as commerce minister in Pervez Musharraf’s cabinet from 1999 to 2002. Jillani served as the 21st chief justice of Pakistan from December 12, 2013, to July 5, 2014. Husain is a Pakistani banker and economist who served as the dean of Institute of Business Administration (IBA) and governor of the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) from 1999 to 2006.
PTI Vice President Shah Mehmood Qureshi will submit the nominations to Opposition Leader in National Assembly Khursheed Shah.
For the position of caretaker Punjab chief minister, PTI is likely to nominate Salman Shah, Shahid Hafeez Kardar and Tariq Khoso.
Shah is the former caretaker finance minister and has served as an advisor to the former prime minister Shaukat Aziz on finance, economic affairs, statistics and revenue. Kardar is a Pakistani banker who served as the 16th governor of the SBP.
Khosa served as the director general of the Federal Investigation Agency in 2009 and co-chair of the Governance Committee of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) country programme from 2010-2014.
Mian Mehmood ur Rasheed will submit the nominations for the slot.
