ISLAMABAD: The United States Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB) Chief Executive Officer Dr Hamayun Chaudhry has said that Pakistan was the fourth biggest provider of doctors to the United States.
Chaudhry visited the offices of Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) on Monday and was welcomed by PMDC President Dr Shabbir Lehri.
The president of PMDC gave a detailed presentation on the functioning of PMDC , Professor Abid farooqi shed light on licensure and continuing medical education (CME), while Professor Eice Muhammad gave a presentation on legal code of conduct and disciplines.
The PMDC also arranged for the delegate visits to public, private, military, medical and dental colleges i.e. Army Medical College, Rawalpindi Medical College, CMH, Holy Family Hospital. The purpose of these visits was to brief the delegate on medical and dental educational system of Pakistan.
Meanwhile, the FSMB CEO also attended a seminar regarding Pakistani medical and dental curriculum at the Holy Family hospital, which was jointly organized by PMDC and Rawalpindi Medical College. Chaudhry expressed his appreciation of the system of medical and dental education in Pakistan.
He said that till date, 12,000 Pakistani physicians and specialist doctors have worked in 50 different states of USA.
He added that out of these 12,000 doctors, 3,100 doctors had graduated from Dow University of Health Sciences and 1,900 from King Edward Medical College, adding that a considerable portion of these doctors was from Agha Khan University and Allama Iqbal Medical College.
He apprised the participants that Pakistani national doctors in USA had a very good repute and were considered amongst the best doctors. He also added that Pakistan was the fourth biggest county to provide doctors to the USA and it was expected that in the near future, it would become the third largest country in this regard.
Chaudhry added that he was very impressed by the level of advancement that Pakistan had made in the field of medical and dental education, adding that this standard was at par with the west.
He congratulated PMDC on being a responsible monitoring body and maintaining a good standard of education in Pakistani medical and dental colleges.
