HYDERABAD: The entry-test at the Centre of Excellence in Art and Design (CEAD) of the Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET), Jamshoro, was conducted on Sunday. About 12 blocks were established for 338 candidates appearing from Sindh, Punjab, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit Biltistan, Azad Jammu Kashmir and FATA. As many as 155 seats are reserved for the candidates on Sindh’s 50 percent quota while rest is for other parts of the country. The entry-test was held for admissions in the departments of Fine Art, Architecture, Communication Design, Ceramics Design and Textile Design. The test was divided into two parts, multiple choice questions and drawing, whereas both had equal 50 marks each. MUET Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Aslam Uqaili, Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Tauha Hussain Ali, Architecture and Civil Engineering Dean Prof Dr Ghous Bux Khaskheli, CEAD Director Prof Dr Bhai Khan Shar, Finance Director Engr Munir Ahmad Shaikh and other officials paid visit to the test blocks. Talking to local media, Dr Aslam Uqaili said that the people had a desire that there should be an art institute in this region and their wish was fulfilled with the birth of CEAD at MUET. He expressed his satisfaction over the performance of the Center’s graduates and shared his plan to organize many conferences like the one international moot earlier organized by the Centre. Dr Ghous Bux Khaskheli said that art loving students have extraordinary scope in this field and can earn more than engineers and doctors. He said that art plays very important role in making a good society and CEAD is its living example, which has been contributing in a larger sense. Dr Bhai Khan Shar said that government should take initiatives to start drawing education at metric and intermediate level as youngsters have immense potential in art. Parents should divert their children to the field of their interest, he suggested.
