Around 300 British Pakistanis have died of the Covid-19 since the outbreak of virus in the UK, NHS data has revealed. The official figures released by the NHS from all the hospitals shows that at least 18000 people have lost their lives in the UK’s hospital after testing positive for the deadly disease. According to the NHS statistics, 287 people of Pakistani origin, 420 of Indian, 407 of Caribbean, 50 of Chinese and 388 of other ethnic groups have so for died from the virus. Total numbers of people died from BAME communities stands at 2,522 which is 16 % of all the deaths in the UK. The numbers of Pakistanis contracted the coronavirus believe to be in thousands and London, Birmingham and Leeds have the large numbers of Pakistanis affected. The highest numbers of deaths 8,457 has been in the age group 80 and over followed by 6407 in ago 60-79, 1282 in the age group of 40-59 and only 8 death in people aged up to 19. Area wise London is the worst affected in the UK with 4211 death followed by Midlands area with 3241 death reported. The NHS figures were release days after a formal review into why people from ethnic minorities are “disturbingly” and disproportionately affected by coronavirus has been launched by the UK Government. A group of UK parliamentarians led by British- Pakistani MP for Bolton South East Yasmin Qurashi wrote a letter to the Health Secretary Matt Hancock demanding urgent action to understand why large numbers of people from the BAME communities experiencing the disease and to take appropriate steps to prevent further deaths.
