The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA), on recommendations of the Council of Complaints, Islamabad, has banned the appearance of analyst HafeezUllahNiazi on any channel for 30 days. Niazi in a programme on a private new channel on July 6, 2019, had levelled certain allegations against Senator Azam Swati, which the TV channel could not substantiate before the Council of Complaints. The council extended sufficient time to the TV channel to prove veracity of the comments uttered by the said analyst during the programme, however, the channel could not come up with a satisfactory reply. Notwithstanding, the TV channel had also been ordered to tender an apology within seven days for airing baseless/defamatory comments, violating PEMRA, Electronic Media (Programmes & Advertisements) Code of Conduct 2015. In case of non-compliance, the TV channel will be liable to pay a fine amounting to Rs 1 million.
