Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan Monday said Maulana Fazlur Rahman is using madrassah students as a shield to come into power.
“Maulana Fazlur Rahman should become a real ‘Rahber’ (leader) of the nation by parting ways with the looters and plunderers. Maulana’s support for looters is against the Islamic teachings,” she told media outside the Parliament House. She strongly condemned the arrest of PTI MNA Alamgir Khan in Karachi, saying that all is being done in the name of democracy. “The Sindh government is using different tactics to suppress its political opponents,” she alleged.
Dr Firdous said the constitution of Pakistan guarantees equal rights to minorities living in the country. She said observing the World Minority Day aims at renewing the pledge to protect right of minorities, who are playing a key role in national development since the creation of Pakistan. She said Pakistan has always acknowledged national services rendered by the minority community, adding the country is incomplete without them. “The white colour in the national flag represents the minority community,” she said, adding that Prime Minister Imran Khan has also talked about equal rights of minorities while addressing an event to mark the Minority Day.
