Special Assistant to the PM on Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan on Friday said that the current government believed in the rule of law, freedom of judiciary and respect for national institutions.
Talking about references against judges, Dr Firdous said that no one was above the law in the country and added that unfortunately a constitutional matter was politicised.
She said that Prime Minister Imran Khan had also struggled for an independent judiciary and had been sent to jail.
Dr Firdous said that references against the judges should not be considered an attack on the independence of the judiciary. She said that the judiciary itself would decide the matter.
Dr Firdous urged the opposition to avoid agitation and play a positive role in resolving public issues and added that the opposition benches should respect the parliament. She said that the opposition had not courage to listen others.
“Parliament is not a wrestling ring, but a respectable House and the parliamentary meetings should not be used as a shield to defend corruption of families. The opposition wants to use its democratic right to speak, but it is not ready to give this right to members of the government,” she said.
“Those who are crying hoarse for democracy, do not have the courage to listen. The opposition protests when the session of National Assembly is not held and when the session is called, they have no agenda except to fight,” she said.
She said the opposition should not become a spokesman of criminals who committed grave crimes against national institutions, but should play its role in the Parliament.
She said that the opposition should leave its old ways and play a responsible role for resolution of problems of people. “Politics on a constitutional matter is unfortunate. Nobody is above accountability,” she said.
