Pakistan Railways would soon hike the fares of passenger trains by up to 10 per cent. A notification to increase the fares would be issued shortly. The department has also decided to increase the fares of AC coaches by four to ten per cent. The new fares would not, however, be implemented on passengers of economy class. The fare of coaches is said to be increased in view of the hike in petroleum prices, leading to inflation. The GST on petrol has been raised from two per cent to 12 per cent. The GST on kerosene oil has also been increased from eight per cent to 17% while that on diesel from 13 per cent to 17 per cent. According to the notification, after an increase of Rs 9/litre in petrol price, it is being sold for Rs 108/ litre while the price of high-speed diesel has been increased to Rs122.32 after an increase of Rs 4.89/litre. The price of light-speed diesel has also witnessed an increase to Rs 86.94/litre while kerosene oil is being sold at Rs 96.77/litre.
