The groundbreaking ceremony of the establishment of Software Technology Park (STP) at Punjab University College of Information Technology (PUCIT) was held on Wednesday.
PUCIT Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Niaz Ahmad Akhtar honoured the ceremony as chief guest. A larger number of college teachers and students were present on the event. The STP will be constructed through PUCIT funds and will house offices of tech companies as well as an incubation centre, with the primary goal of enhancing PUCIT-industry linkages.
Afterwards, PUCIT Principal Professor Dr Syed Mansoor Sarwar gave the vice chancellor a tour of the campus, GIS Centre, laboratories, lecture theatres, daycare centre, prayer hall and the library. The VC appreciated the provision of high-class facilities to students as well as a well-maintained and environment friendly ecosystem in the college including a large number of fruit trees.
Faculty members requested the VC to allow provision of a cafeteria and at least limited medical services to PUCIT, Centre of Excellence in Molecular Biology and Centre of Applied Molecular Biology.
The VC gave verbal approval for the provision of both facilities and directed Professor Dr Syed Mansoor Sarwar to initiate the tendering process for the STP and Student Services Centre at PUCIT.
