Restrictions on Pakistani diplomats stationed in the United States will kick in today (Friday-the 11th of May).
The United States had initially planned to initiate the restrictions on the 1st of May, but the move was stalled till the 11th of May.
Under the new stipulations, Pakistani diplomatic staff and their families are restricted to traveling a mere 25 miles from where they are posted.
If they wish to travel beyond these limitations, they must take prior approval at least five days before their scheduled date of travel.
Pakistan’s Ambassador to America, Mr Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry further clarified that the restrictions applied to Pakistani diplomats falling under the A1 and A2 categories.
The ambassador said that the unprecedented restrictions would impact roughly 250 individuals.
The travel restrictions are the latest American salvo against Pakistan at a time when Pakistan-US relations are at a historic low.
