The Foreign Office on Wednesday expressed its concerns over United States president Donald Trump’s decision to scrap Iran nuclear deal.
The statement was issued hours after President Donald Trump announced pulling the US out of an international agreement aimed at stopping Iran from obtaining a nuclear bomb.
On Tuesday, Trump said he was re-imposing economic sanctions on Tehran and pulling his country out of the deal, achieved through months-long negotiations.
In its statement issued later, Pakistan said it believed that international treaties and agreements concluded through painstaking negotiations were sacrosanct. “Arbitrarily rescinding such agreements will undermine confidence in the value of dialogue and diplomacy in the conduct of international relations and the peaceful resolution of disputes,” the statement said.
It noted that the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) represented a very good example of a negotiated settlement of complex issues, through dialogue and diplomacy. “We had welcomed the JCPOA when it was concluded and hoped that all parties will find a way for its continuation, especially when the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has repeatedly verified Iran’s compliance.”
