ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court (SC) on Monday ordered the provincial authorities to complete security provision formula within a week.
During the hearings of suo moto notice case on security provision, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Saqib Nisar remarked that Nawaz Sharif should be given security as per law. Nisar said that all the provincial advocate generals should appear before the court.
Nisar said that the withdrawal of security has been criticized, adding that the court doesn’t want anyone’s life at risk. CJP directed that security should be provided to those who are on risk.
CJP further said that security should be provided under the rules and regulations. He added that providing security to unauthorized people costs roughly around Rs 1 billion and 38 crore. Nisar said that security of 4600 individuals was withdrawn in Punjab.
Court ordered the police to assess the provision of security to those who are authorized rather than providing it to everyone.
Islamabad Inspector General (IG) informed the court that security will be provided to those individuals named and authorized by Interior Ministry, whereas the matter of reviewing the unauthorized security will be dealt with later on.
CJP ordered the provincial authorities to form a proper structure and mechanism of their security and submit a report to the SC so that people’s tax money isn’t wasted on the security of the non-deserving.
The court adjourned the case hearing for one week.
