ISLAMABAD: The price of dry wood has increased greatly in many parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and FATA due to rain and snow in various areas of the region.
The rain was greeted with joy by the locals, who had long hoped for an end to the dry spell; however the downturn was that the price of dry wood had subsequently become very high.
Wood sellers in the region had taken advantage of the weather conditions and had raised their prices exponentially, though they maintain that the change had come due to routes leading to mountainous areas being blocked, reducing the supply.
Fida Hussain, a local from the Kurram agency, said, “I just returned from a wood market empty handed due to exorbitant prices. The government should take notice of the matter and help people who cannot afford to buy dry wood.”
