KARACHI: An oil tanker overturned and caught fire on the Superhighway at Nooriabad near Dadabhoi Cement Factory on Saturday, killing at least two people and injuring 11, including three policemen.
The tanker’s fire spread to four other vehicles, including two motorcycles, a car and a police mobile van. They bodies and the injured were shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi.
According to hospital sources, two victims were yet to be unidentified; however, the injured included Abdul Rehman 16, Gul Hassan 30, Allah Ditta 45, Zulfiqar 20, Allah Rakha 25, Mukarram 17, Parvaiz 18, Sher Hussain 15. Three others, whose age could not be verified included Zahid, Aslam and Allah Din.
The police claimed that the truck’s brakes failed and it began moving in a reverse direction on an incline. As a result, it overturned and caught fire. The tanker was carrying 44,000 litres of oil. The driver fled the scene.
