A Supreme Court judge has recused himself from hearing the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) appeal challenging the bail granted to Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif and former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s principal secretary Fawad Hasan Fawad. Justice Yahya Afridi was part of the three-member SC bench headed by Justice Azmat Saeed, hearing the NAB appeal against a Lahore High Court (LHC) decision to grant bail to Shehbaz Sharif and Fawad Hassan Fawad in the Ashiana Housing Scheme case. During the hearing, Justice Afridi said that he was closely acquainted with Fawad Hasan Fawad, therefore he would be unable to continue sitting on the bench hearing the case against him. The three-member bench hearing the case was disbanded after Justice Afridi’s recusal. Hearing on the NAB’s appeal would continue after a new bench is formed for the case.
