Sindh High Court (SHC), on Tuesday, asked the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for progress in an investigation into a ‘fake’ call-up letter issued to a citizen, Shamshad Ali.
Hearing plea filed by Ali against the fake notice, a two-member bench directed the bureau to submit its report by May 12. A notice was also issued to the NAB prosecutor general in this regard.
The bench asked the NAB counsel what had the watchdog body done against the employees involved behind the fake call-up notice?
However, the lawyer requested for more time to carry out a departmental inquiry in the matter.
According to the petitioner, he was asked through a NAB call-up notice to settle a land matter.
At the previous hearing, NAB Director-General had filed a report stating that an inquiry into the issuance of fake call-up letter was carried out. The inquiry had concluded that a bogus letter had been sent to Ali.
Expressing dissatisfaction over the report, the judges had observed that NAB investigators had not come well-prepared to assist the court in NAB-related matters.
They had directed the NAB chairman to look into the fake call-up notice matter and furnish a compliance report.
