An accountability court, on Tuesday, issued notices to Pakistan Muslime League-Nawaz (PML-N) President, Shehbaz Sharif, and his son Hamza Shehbaz to appear on March 4 in a case against Ramzan Sugar Mills.
The father and son were named as primary accused in a reference filed against the construction of a drain of the Ramzan Sugar Mill in Chiniot district, causing losses of Rs 213 million to the national exchequer.
The reference stated, “As Punjab chief minister Shehbaz had misused his authority by constructing a 9 to 10 kilometers of drain to facilitate Ramzan Sugar mills under the pretext of people’s well-being.” The NAB also claimed that Shehbaz had abused his powers as Punjab’s chief minister to benefit his family members.
After concluding their investigation, NAB officials sought the approval from the Bureau’s headquarters and decided to file a reference against Shehbaz Sharif and Hamza Shehbaz on February 2.
It may be pertinent to mention here that Shehbaz was granted bail in Ashiana Housing and Ramzan Sugar Mills references only last week by the Lahore High Court (LHC). Hamza is in London at the moment to take care of his newborn daughter.
